In a student-driven learning environment, students have opportunities to learn in ways that make sense for them based on cognitive levels and learning style preferences. Based on his book, Flow, Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi promotes the importance of ensuring learning activities are well matched to the needs and interest of the learner. Even the best lessons and learning activities, however, won't produce learning if a student is weak in executive function. Building the skills of executive function must be a goal of any student-centered learning environment.
